「はしのまち」

日本橋の地名は、その名のとおり＜橋＞から来ています。この橋が江戸時代から町の要所として五代街道の起点になっていることは多くの人がご存知でしょう。そして、その存在は人々を魅了し続け、多くの芸術作品に取り上げられてきました。＜橋＞という構造物が結ぶことや繋ぐことの役割であることは明白です。そして、実際に多くの人々の歩みを歴史のなかで繋いできた存在なのです。
今回は、橋の新解釈ともなる軽やかな建築的な側面と絵画的な側面が、アーティストの作品となって結び繋がることになるでしょう。
★オープニング・レセプション

★スペシャル・イベント「はしを探るアートのはなし」

日本橋は、その様相をさまざまに変えながら400年間という歴史を刻みながら近世と近代、そして現代までを繋ぐかけはしとなってきました。そこでメタファーとしての＜橋＞を探してみましょう。例えば浮世絵に描かれた「江戸百景」や「熈代勝覧」といった栄華を極めた時代や、明治以降の錦絵で描かれたモダンな街並みや情景を現代の街並みと重ね合わせて歩きましょう。その方法は、歴史家や専門家の知識や視点というよりアーティストやキュレーターが気になる＜はし＞を探していく作業になります。みなさんと一緒にそれぞれの気づきを共有しましょう。
【第１部】日本橋ウォーキング14:30-16:00
集合：「日本橋」麒麟の像の前（最寄駅：東西線日本橋駅、銀座線三越前駅）@14:30

作家プロフィール
PART 3サム・ストッカー(Sam Stocker) イギリス／東京
1977年英国ロンドン市生まれ。英国レディング大学美術学部を卒業後、エディンバラ・カレッジ・オブ・アートにてポストグラデュエートディプロマを取得。現在、東京藝術大学大学院に在籍中。ストッカーは、空間を構成する構造や形態を読み解き、そこに関わる室内外の要素、建具や支持体、付随する構成物のすべてを読み替えていくことで、新たな構造体を創出していく手法をとっています。それは、室内に限らず野外においても同様な手法を用いていますが、最近では、より広がりを見せていて街全体や遠隔区域を結び付けていくような、”環境”ともいえる大きなスケールをひとつの構造体に変換させていく試みを行っています。ストッカーは、絵画を専攻したことで、限られた2次元の世界に新たな基軸を加えていくことに可能性を見出しているのかもしれません。それによって、これまで「インスタレーション」と呼ばれてきた作品とは異なるコンテクストを提供し、新たな表現に取り組んでいるといえるでしょう。

PART3 近藤恵介（東京）
Keisuke Kondo（Tokyo）
1981年、福岡県生まれ。東京藝術大学で日本画を学んだ近藤は、その保守的な校風にそぐわない現代的な絵画を制作してきました。やまと絵などの古画から引用した大胆な構図のなかに、作家自身の日常生活に近しいものや今日的な表現を併置させています。近年では絵画という平面領域を拡張しようと、画中にインスタレーション的空間を招き入れ、その「場」を跳躍台として、絵画的な身振りから人間の営み全体を考えます。そのことは、新しい「日本画」を独創することとも通底していると言えるでしょう。

“DIALOGUES”
Doubles x 3 parts exhibitions
The International Contemporary Art Exhibition “DIALOGUES” is the three separated
exhibitions by six emerging artists who are paired for each exhibition.
By having two artists as a combination, it will encourage and challenge each artist to
enhance his/her knowledge and skills to create one original program that will lead to global
art scene. Through out the exhibition, we are having new challenges.
● Each exhibition is a combination program of two domestic and international artists who
meet each other for the first time for this exhibition.
● Each exhibition is created based on communications between two artists.
● Each artist create new works to represent “Nihonbashi” through his/her perspective.
● The people who involves in each process create each exhibition.
■The 3rd Exhibition: “Bridge Town” (Hashi no Machi)
Sam Stocker（London/Tokyo） x Keisuke Kondo(Tokyo)
The town name “Nihonbashi” is actually derived from the particular “bridge”
It is well known that the bridge was a starting point of five major routes (Godaikaido) since
Edo era. The bridge has attracted many people and lots of artists depicted the bridge in
their art works. It is obvious that the role of bridge, one of the forms of construction, is to
connect and combine. And, in fact, it has connected and witnessed many people’s way in
its history.

★Researching into Nihonbashi through Walking/Artists Talk: 28th Feb. 14:30 – 18:00
Nihonbashi (Nihonbashi Bridge) over the Nihonbashi River is a symbol of the area
Nihonbashi. Nihonbashi Bridge has appeared as a bridge that connects the modern and
contemporary history with its history of 400 years. So now, let us find a “bridge” as a
metaphor. As you walk, try capturing the flourishing era as depicted in the Ukiyoe prints, as “One Hundred view of Edo” and “Kidai shoran”, and modern street scenery depicted in the Nishikie prints of Meiji era in Today’s scenery. That is “bridge finding” of artists and
curators in different perspectives from that of historians and specialists. Shall we make
share what you find?
